“Every artist dips his brush in his own soul, and paints his own nature into his pictures.” – Henry Ward Beecher
As the youngest and only girl of 4 kids, I grew up understanding that I would be interested in things different from my brothers. I also had a passion for the visual arts early on, and I proudly displayed my child drawings of cats and snowmen on our family fridge....
From the beginning, I was inspired by the abundance of nature. The organic shapes and forms of the world and life around us meld with the vibrance of the color spectrum and nature's scientific nuances, giving us the phenomenon of Mother Earth. As the one who predates us all, nature is the basis of my work, and all its different forms. I take pride in being able to express the beauty of the world through my little lens.
Originating in oil paint at a young age, my exploration into art took me many different routes, including into traditional gouache and most importantly, printmaking. I have a similar backstory as many others, in that I carved my first (and last for quite a while) linoleum block in school. At 20, I was taught by a master artist of the many different techniques of printmaking, and soon a new and unexpected passion bloomed.
I take many of the photos that I paint, and many of them I piece together from my own pictures and those that I find. I enjoy watching paint take form and become like a photo - It is a wonderful reminder that even the most candid moments of life can be captured and immortalized.
